When you arrive in London you may be fortunate enough to be transported to your housing. If not, then don't be alarmed. Anglo American will advise you as to where you will need to collect your keys. Below is some basic arrival information

Gatwick airport
The tube does not go out to Gatwick, which is some 30 miles to the South East of London. Therefore to come into central London you have a number of different options

  • Taxi - A taxi from the airport is going to cost you a substantial amount of money, in some instances over £100.00. If you are going to get a taxi always get a black licensed taxi. You may encounter unmarked cars at the airport, calling themselves mini-cabs, and claiming to be cheaper than a taxi. Beware! They are acting illegally. Anglo American can assist you in arranging a driver to pick you up from the airport.  We work closely with a company who we are able to recommend; Executive Classic Cars.  To pre-book a taxi please call them on +44 (0) 20 7229 1234 or see their website www.londonclassiccars.com
  • The Gatwick Express - The Gatwick Express is a high-speed service from London Gatwick to Victoria Station. It takes approximately 30 minutes. More information can be found at www.gatwickexpress.com
  • South Eastern Trains - If you are looking to take a cheaper public transport option then you can use South Eastern trains. They leave from the same platforms as the Gatwick Express, so make sure you are getting the correct train. They take slightly longer depending on how many stations they are stopping at. More information can be found at www.southernrailway.com
  • Thameslink Trains - These are similar to South Eastern Trains, but go to either Kings Cross or London Bridge. For more information see www.thameslink.co.uk
  • National Express - There is a coach service from London Gatwick to Central London, which takes approximately 90 minutes. More information can be found on the Anglo American links page, where you can book your ticket in advance
  • Easy Bus.  Easy Bus offer a cheap transfer service from Gatwick, Luton and Stansted to Central London.  The further you book in advance, the cheaper it is.  In some instances fares can be found for as little as £2.00 one way.  To book go to http://www.easybus.co.uk
  • Dot2Dot- Dot2Dot are an airport transfer shuttle service, between Heathrow and Gatwick and any address in Central London.  This means that you can, if necessary, be transported directly to your accommodations.  This is a reasonably priced option, that allows you to travel in comfort, yet also have a transfer directly from the airport to your meeting point.  To book please go to http://www.dot2.com/Home.aspx?afid=354a02b3-37d8-446e-bc86-75901b46db06

Heathrow airport
Heathrow is the most centrally located airport, other than City, which is rarely used. The majority of flights come into Heathrow.   It is about 10 miles to the West of London and can be reached by the tube system.

  • Taxi - A taxi from the airport is going to cost you a substantial amount of money, in some instances over £80.00.
  • The Heathrow Express - The Heathrow Express is a high-speed train that goes to London Paddington. It is a lot faster than the tube, especially for the majority of our housing, which is located in the Bayswater area. In fact some of our housing is within walking distance, although if you have luggage it is unlikely you will want to walk! More information on the Heathrow Express can be found on www.heathrowexpress.com

  • Heathrow Connect- Heathrow Connect is a slightly slower train service that goes between Heathrow and London Paddington.  It makes a few stops en-route, but only takes around 25 minutes, and is substantially cheaper than the Heathrow Express.  https://www.heathrowconnect.com/
  • The Underground - Tube services into Central London operate every 5-6 minutes at peak times, and cost as little as £5.00. If travelling to Central London, be sure to purchase a tube ticket for Zones 1-6. However, be aware, that the tube can get very busy, especially at peak times, and you are likely to need to change lines at some point. London underground stations are lacking in lifts, and so you will need to be prepared to lug your bags up various flights of stairs. More information on the tube can be found on www.tfl.gov.uk

Stansted airport
It is unlikely that you will arrive at Stansted airport, unless you are coming from Europe. Many of the budget airlines fly from Stansted, so if you are travelling to Europe it is likely you will use either this airport, or Luton. Beware! Stansted is not centrally located, and the only way of getting out there is by coach or train. A cab will cost £150.00.

  • Stansted Express - The Stansted Express runs to and from Liverpool Street mainline station. At present whilst they are doing engineering works it is often replaced at the weekends by buses, which are a lot slower. If you are flying out of Stansted always check the Stansted Express times first. Sometimes you might have to get the coach because of the time that you need to check in. More information on the Stansted Express can be found on www.stanstedexpress.com
  • Terravision- Terravision offer a coach service between Stansted and London Liverpool Street.  One major advantage of the coaches is that they run throughout the night.  Pre-booking is highly recommended, especially for night time departures, as there have been instances where coaches have been full, and the only way in which you are guaranteed a seat is if you have a pre-booked internet ticket.  http://www.terravision.eu/
Easy Bus.  Easy Bus offer a cheap transfer service from Gatwick, Luton and Stansted to Central London.  The further you book in advance, the cheaper it is.  In some instances fares can be found for as little as £2.00 one way.  To book go to http://www.easybus.co.uk
